The 2022 Old Vine Carignan is deep purple with the fragrance of fresh red fruits and dried herbs. Exuberant crisp flavors of pomegranate and cranberry are balanced by savory spices and earth. The Carignan is lifted by vibrant acidity and light tannins with a crisp, crunchy finish.
Vineyard: This 12 acre vineyard was planted 50 years ago in 1972 on its own roots with 10 x 10 spacing. These head trained vines yield a scant 2 to 4 tons per acre of small clusters with intense small berries that have deep color. Farmed per the Lodi Rules of Sustainability, this Carignan is a key component of our rosé blend.
Winemaking: Harvested at night on September 8, in a second pass two weeks after picking for rosé, the clusters were destemmed and soaked for 24 hours before fermentation. Fermented in stainless steel the wine was pressed and moved to neutral oak and stainless for 9 months.
