Making Red Wine
In 2021 after receiving our small share of the Bechthold Vineyard Cinsaut we decided to hold it back from our rosé blend to try our hand at making red wine. After a morning of foot treading the clusters we left them to ferment on their skins in half ton bins. Once complete, we drained the wine into neutral oak and stainless steel barrels. After 18 months we were pleasantly surprised by a magical luminescent and fragrant wine, especially beautiful in contrast to the gnarled vines that have been in the sandy soil on the west side of Lodi's Mokelumne river AVA, since 1886.
The 2021 Lorenza Cinsaut is fragrant, soft, and so alive! Aromas and flavors of baking, spices, fraises des boises and Rainier cherries in a chillable, quaffable red wine.
