2025 Rosé Release - our 18th year!

One of the wonderful things about making a blended Rosé is the chance to get to know a number of vineyards. Over the years, we have kept our core sources and have also given in to our exploratory urges. This year has been a shining example.

For our 18th year of Rosé, we have included Grenache from the Terra Alta Vineyard in Clements Hills. Organically and sustainably farmed by meticulous grower Markus Bokisch, this is also the source of our Picpoul Blanc. The fruit was picked early, ensuring great verve and fragrance. It is the zippy kicker in this juicy 2025 blend.

Lodi is the home of the oldest Cinsault vineyard in the world. And this year the Bechthold is joined by two other vineyards in our blend, Sprague and Kirschenmann. Both relatively young, the Sprague showed us focused golden delicious apple and cinnamon. This vineyard is down the road from Terra Alta, at the foot of the foothills. The third vineyard, Kirschenmann is largely dedicated to Zinfandel and owned and farmed by Tegan Passalaigua. A late season call offering a few bins was music to my ears. My friend Jon picked them up and brought to friends in Sonoma for fermentation. This added the special sauce to the blend this year with quince, persimmon and honey.

Overall, It was a year of stunning color, expressive aromas and flavors. A gift of a Rosé vintage. The night-cooled clusters were gently pressed upon picking. Each lot was fermented separately in stainless steel then blended for bottling.

TASTING NOTES: An especially pretty peachy color, the wine is fragrant with a fruit basket of ripe cantaloupe, nectarine, persimmon and deeper savory notes. The silky mouthfeel balances the acidity. On the palate is a melange of citrus: red grapefruit, Meyer lemon, quince with persimmon, pomegranate, and a lovely savory note. The finish is both tart and silky.
